Why?

The best learning experience is one you're naturally drawn back to.
Vocomi uses the engagement techniques of social media apps to make vocabulary practice feel natural and rewarding. With comics, spoken examples and quick interactions, the urge to keep scrolling becomes an opportunity to keep learning. The app includes vocabulary lists for language exams (A1–B1, N5–N4 and TOPIK) and lets you add your own words. Example sentences are community-maintained. You can import and export progress, lists and settings to and from other apps such as Anki. Vocomi is funded by user donations, does not show ads, works offline and does not collect personal data.

Languages

Pre-built decks for five languages, with translations for 29 languages.

Vocomi includes 12 pre-built decks for Japanese, German, Korean, French, and Spanish. You can also create custom decks in any language. The pre-built decks currently contain a total of 43,236 example sentences that are maintained by the Vocomipedia community.

    Vocabs

Study example sentences, find words, and build lists.

Detail View shows four comic strips and four example sentences for each vocab. Sentences are spoken using on-device TTS. Parts of speech are color-coded, and the vocab you’re learning is highlighted in green.
Vocab Browser shows compact lists with knowledge indicators for each vocab. Swipe right to update knowledge, or swipe left to add vocabs to lists. Search supports tenses, irregular forms, synonyms, and partial matches.
List Automation creates lists from imported chats from WhatsApp or LINE Messenger*, CSV files, or dictated text.

      * Chat import runs fully offline. Your data never leaves your device.

      Japanese Features

      Furigana and kanji practice.

Choose whether to show or hide Furigana, or tilt your device to reveal them gradually. You can also display unknown words in Hiragana only. For Japanese decks, knowledge is tracked separately for reading and translation. Review sequences can include animated kanji stroke order and reading questions.

        Practice

        Practice with “Shorts“ sequences.

Practice mode uses FSRS to choose words from your review history. A sequence can show the word, translation, comic, or example sentence, then ask for the target word, the translation, or, for Japanese, the reading.
“Shorts“ sequences can be customized to show words, translations, comics, example sentences, quizzes, and more – in any order, with as much repetition as you like.
Statistics show how many vocabs you fully or partially know, total practice time, and an estimate based on your current pace.

The Home Screen widget shows vocabs selected for review. The Lock Screen widget can show a vocab and display learning progress.

            About

Vocomi is designed to complement, not replace, living in the country, speaking with locals, or attending language classes.

Why isn’t the app open source yet? Vocomi was built and refined over more than a year, across more than 50 TestFlight releases. We don’t want the full source code to end up in AI training datasets, so we plan to release selected parts over time rather than open the entire codebase immediately.
